Grocery Outlet and Habitat for Humanity are a perfect match. Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit Christian ministry founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live. Grocery Outlet stores are independently operated family businesses that want to give back to the community that supports them. Both organizations serve families that have traditionally been underserved by their communities.
Grocery Outlet operators began their relationship with HFH affiliates in 2007. By 2010 they were involved with over 18 affiliates supporting over 110 families in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and California.
As part of their participation in the program, operators stock the home with food and supplies to fill the kitchen cupboards, pantry, laundry room and bathrooms. They also donate a gift certificate to the family to shop for fresh produce and other perishables. Local operators also provide lunches, snacks and bottled water for the volunteers on the HFH construction, and also support their employees working on the project.
Recently, Grocery Outlet stores were involved in Phase III of the Habitat for Heroes and Foundations for Families in San Juan Capistrano. This campaign just completed 18 homes. Seventeen of these homes were specifically marked for active military personnel, veterans, disabled veterans, or surviving families of veterans who have lost their lives.
Collectively, Grocery Outlet store and corporate employees also raised $86,000 to donate to Habitat for Humanity through an auction of paintings donated by artist Michael Israel.
We are proud to partner with Habitat for Humanity and help support their mission of eliminating poverty and homelessness from the world.
